Public Service
A growing town means growing needs from residents. To maintain superior service levels, growth of our town staff needs to keep pace to reflect those growing needs. We will need additional public works staff, utility personnel and administrative personnel.
Apex manages its own utilities (water, sewer, electric). The professionals managing these departments help us maintain quality service, while keeping utility costs some of the lowest in Wake County. I support measured growth in town staffing to ensure our departments have the right capacity to support our residents.
Public service includes town government. I believe that Apex is fortunate to have a talented and diverse Council. It is one of the most well-rounded teams I have had the privilege to work with. Our diverse backgrounds supplement each other and lead to spirited debate during Council meetings. At the end of the day, we all care deeply about this town and aim to do what's right. I am committed to keep making the time investment this role demands. I am also committed to honesty and transparency. I believe that candor and transparency are critical to this role. The Dutch are known for their directness. My personality reflects that. What you see is what you get.
Public Safety
Along with the growth of town services comes the need to keep a growing number of residents safe. Our fire and police departments do a wonderful job, but have more and more ground to cover. Our capital improvement plan and FY23-24 budget reflects these needs. We'll see a new fire station open soon, a new fire truck, six new police officers and an additional School Resource Officer (SRO). I am happy to support these investments.
I also like to see Apex make use of new legislation that allows municipalities to supplement sworn officers with civilian staff for routine investigations, e.g. non-injury crash sites. These laws have only recently come into effect and it's early to assess the impact on Apex, but I see opportunities that are worth exploring.
I am proud that the budget we recently passed reflects public safety as a priority and I will promote continued investments in our town to service our residents and keep them safe.
